Jonas Green House Artifacts: Printer's type

Thousands of pieces of printer’s type were recovered from the Jonas Green Print Shop, including the Death’s Head stamp that is one of the focal points of “Seeking Liberty.”  Included here are a few hundred basic pieces of type.  Featured are pieces of type that represent larger capital letters, fancy scripts, including a letter “D” that resembles the font used to spell out “DOOMS DAY” in the 1765 Maryland Gazette that protested the Stamp Act.  Also included are pieces of type that have hearts and spades on them, used to print playing cards.  The two objects that look like nails are tools that were used to pry broken pieces of type out of the trays in a printing press.
