Data and Discussion
As we finish transcribing the historic censuses and finalize the links between it and the corresponding maps, we will be able to begin to analyze our new dataset. We hope to be able to use our new datasets to address historic demographics, distributions of people on the landscape, make comparisons between our two snapshots in time, and make connections between the past and the present.
This space will also contain an explanation, or a cookbook of sorts, of our work so that others can do as we have done. We hope that the lessons learned while carrying out this project can help others.
We will also provide links to our digitized datasets. Digitizing and transcribing the historic maps and censuses that make up our data is the most time and labor intensive part of this process. By making this work available, we hope to eliminate this significant barrier to using historical geographic data.
